About Me
Hi, my name is Josh Holmes, the founder of J Holmes Training and Nutrition. I was born and raised in Madison, WI, and received my Business Degree from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. I went on to get a Master’s Degree in Sports Management from the University of Minnesota.
I began training people in my early 20’s as a side job and my passion for health and fitness continued to grow. I was fortunate to get the opportunity to follow my passion with a full-time position when I moved to Columbia, SC at Cardinal Newman School. I worked there for 8 years, with students 7th-12th grade from all sports teams on everything health and fitness related. I served as the Director of Athletic Performance and Head of the Physical Education Department. I am a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and also have a certification in Nutrition from Precision Nutrition. From 2018 to 2023, I was proud to be a part of many state championships, including 4 straight in women’s basketball, back to back men’s basketball, as well as 2 volleyball, softball, and multiple soccer championships.

I believe in a holistic approach to training. I train athletes, not powerlifters or bodybuilders. We train to be fast, reactive, adaptable, strong, elastic, and mobile. Most importantly, I believe in making this experience a whole lot of fun! While I am blessed to be able to work with some of the top athletes in the country, I also have the pleasure of running my youth FUNdamental Fitness program in multiple elementary schools across the Midlands. This has expanded to my “FUNdamental Fridays” as well. The main focus of this program is to bring the enjoyment and love for movement back to the youth and to help develop important life skills like teamwork, patience, and perseverance.
